When I’m teaching someone something new and they are able to do it — that’s my favorite memory of working with those we serve.

Terra, Quality Assurance Coordinator

Every day, our Horizon Project Team works to support adults experiencing intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in Oregon’s Umatilla County.

For more information on what is an intellectual or developmental disabilitiy, and for resources for families and individuals please visit the Oregon Department of Disabilities Services web site at

The Ace Warrior

Marty has a full-time career, his own apartment, a church family, and Down syndrome. His community and Horizon Project provide the support he needs to live his best life. You’ll often find him at Smitty’s Ace Hardware in Hermiston, where he’s worked for over 15 years — greeting customers with a smile and keeping things tidy. He calls his role “Ace Warrior,” which makes sense, given that he’s able to take on nearly anything, and always with that cheerful smile.

Learn more about Marty in this video, created by Ace Hardware.
